President and CEO
Office of the President
Dan Kildee serves as President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, a role he assumed in January 2025.
Before joining the Community Foundation, Dan represented mid-Michigan in the United States Congress for 12 years. During his tenure, he served in House leadership as Chief Deputy Whip for House Democrats for two terms and as co-chair of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, a key component of House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries' leadership team.
Dan’s dedication to community development is longstanding. He co-founded and served as President of the Center for Community Progress, a national nonprofit focused on revitalizing America’s most challenged communities. Before this, Dan spent 25 years in Genesee County government, including 12 years as a county commissioner—five of which he served as Board Chair—and 13 years as County Treasurer. As Treasurer, Dan established the Genesee County Land Bank and became its inaugural President and CEO. This initiative became a national model for land banks, earning the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Innovations in American Government Award in 2007.
Dan began his public service career in 1977 when he was elected to the Flint Board of Education at 18, making him one of the youngest elected officials in the nation. He served on the board for eight years.
Dan’s academic achievements include studies at Mott Community College and the University of Michigan-Flint. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Community Development from Central Michigan University and was named a Fannie Mae Foundation Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2005.
In addition to his public service, Dan worked for eight years at the Whaley Children’s Center, a residential treatment facility in Flint, supporting children who have experienced trauma and abuse.
Dan lives in Flint Township with his wife, Jennifer. They have two children, Kenneth and Katy. Dan’s oldest son, Ryan, and his wife, Ginger, are the proud parents of Dan’s first two grandchildren, Caitlin and Colin.
